A monitoring profile for feline infectious peritonitis (FIP)
This panel includes a comprehensive panel that evaluates organ function, inflammation, immune activity, and overall systemic impact of the disease. Because FIP affects multiple body systems through widespread inflammation and vasculitis, the profile combines biochemical parameters (ALT, AP, bilirubin, urea, creatinine, electrolytes, phosphate, calcium), protein measurements (total protein and electrophoresis), acute-phase markers such as SAA, and a complete blood count. Together, these values help assess how severely the disease is affecting the liver, kidneys, hydration status, and immune system, while also tracking the intensity of inflammation.
This panel is also valuable for monitoring treatment response. Improvements in liver and kidney values, stabilisation of electrolytes, decreasing globulin levels on electrophoresis, and falling SAA concentrations can indicate that inflammation is resolving and therapy is effective. Changes in the complete blood count—such as improving anaemia or normalising white cell patterns—provide additional insight into recovery. By following these parameters over time, clinicians gain a clearer picture of disease progression and therapeutic success.
