Vitamin D3 (25 OH) or Cholecalciferol
total vitamin D is a group of Vitamin D metabolite , so it a combination from ergocholcalciferole (D2) and cholecalciferiole (D3). Both are the most important metabolite.
In dogs and cats, the amount of ergochalciferole is so small, and so we can say that we measure only cholecalciferole, otherwise in farm animals, the amount of ergochalciferole is also important because the source of ergocalciferole is from plants.
Measuring is meaingful in all disorders where a calcium homoestasis disorder is suspected ( hypercalcemia in blood).
This in an in-house test which we perform for all animal species.
