Baermann technique
- A Baermann test is indicated in cases of chronic cough and dyspnoea because of possible lungworm larvae infections.
- Lungworms Angiostrongylus vasorum, Crenosoma vulpis, Aelurostrongylus abstrusus and Troglostrongylus brevior cannot only be detected by Baermann technique but also by PCR
in blood and, if necessary, BAL as individual test (see Chapter 13.4, p. 215 ff.) as well as in the Lungworm Profile Dog and the Lungworm Profile Cat (see Chapter 13.5.1, p. 241).
- In horses, BAL can also be tested.
