The heat-stable isoenzyme of AP is induced by endogenous steroid hormones or by cortisone therapy and can be used to diagnose overtreatment with steroids.
Only useful in combination with the determination of the 'total AP' if it is elevated. With the sum of all isoenzymes of AP ('total AP') and the heat-stable AP, the residual activity of AP can be determined in percentage.
